Community Garden Practice in High-density Central Cities—A Case Study of KIC Garden and Herb Garden in Shanghai

Community garden is one type of urban green space, which plays an active role in many issue, including sustainable development, community building and nature environment, in the development process of the high-density cities. This paper takes the KIC Garden & Herb Garden as examples, and introduces the building and operation in the urban open space and residential private space, and compares and analyzes the difference of two types in their participation and strategies in each phase. Base on a three-year practice, the team of author provide a package of solutions to carry out community garden in high-density central cities, with the aim of promoting multi-participation and sustainable development.
