Abstract:
This paper proposed an approach for quantifying daily exposure of urban residents to eye-level greenery. 280,000 street view images in Shanghai central area are collected for greenery analyses via machine learning. The integration of the street greenery with street accessibility helps to provide detailed guidance for better spatial quality on streets and efficient urban greenery planning. The comparison between this new index and the traditional urban green cover shows that the latter one might not accurately reflect accessed greenery for citizens. This study helps to achieve the co-present of large-scale but also high-resolution analysis. Moreover, it makes a step forward for a more human-centered planning policy.

Abstract:
As urban construction shifts from the incremental to the stock stage, the progressive micro-renewal has become the main mode of urban renewal and reconstruction. The partial renewal mode, which takes public participation as the basis, and micro community and public space facilities as the targets, has become a new way to stimulate the vitality of cities and improve the quality of the built-up urban public space. Taking the projects in Beijing and Shanghai as examples, this paper discusses the development background of urban micro-renewal, and expounds the multiple meanings of urban public space in the context of micro-renewal. On this basis, it summarizes the micro-renewal approaches of urban public space based on community building, which are the integration of marginal space and the choice of catalyst mode, the excavation of the authenticity of the historical context of the site, the protection of the social lifestyle of community residents, and the establishment of the open communication platform of multi-party collaboration and the responsibility planner system.

Abstract:
On the basis of literature, the paper sorts out factors influencing sense of security in streets. It also tests western street security theories, such as the Street Eye theory, with the Shanghai samples. It invites 30 students and 30 citizens to evaluate 300 Baidu street view pictures of Shanghai communities in five different development periods in terms of sense of security. The results showed that the green vision rate, management level and number of lanes leave significant impacts on sense of security, while different impact on perceived safety. It sets up security regression models for single- and double-lane and multi-lane street space, finding that the green vision rate (single- and double-lane correlation coefficient R=0.728, p<0.01; multi-lane correlation coefficient R=0.471, p<0.01), management level (single- and double-lane correlation coefficient R=0.766, p<0.01; multi-lane correlation coefficient R=0.450, p<0.01), and number of lanes(correlation coefficient R=0.502, p<0.01) have a significant positive effect on the sense of security. Interface transparency (single- and double-lane correlation coefficient R=0.222, p=0.010), independent bicycle lane (correlation coefficient R=0.309, p<0.01) and design aesthetics factors (correlation coefficient R=0.432, p<0.01) have a positive impact in the single and double lane space. Scooters and bicycles (single- and double-lane correlation coefficient R=-0.327, p<0.01; multi-lane correlation coefficient R=-0.281, p<0.01)have a negative impact on safety perception evaluation. Motor vehicles (single- and double-lane correlation coefficient R=0.251, p<0.01; multi-lane correlation coefficient R=-0.327, p<0.01) present opposite effect in single and double lanes, and multi-lane space.

Abstract:
For thousands of years, the Chinese have been developing agriculture to survive. To meet the developmental needs of agriculture, human settlement and transportation, they have built various water conservancies according to specific geographical environment and natural character of different regions, and formed a nationwide-covering water network by combining natural water system with artificial water system. Cities were built in proper site within the regional natural landscape and the artificial system of farmland and water conservancy. The land texture inside and outside the city were gradually transformed and embellished, and the landscape environment turned into scenic areas. This unique way of land arrangement and utilization has led to the traditional landscape of China including both artificial and natural elements, and formed the landscape system integrating mountain, water, field and city. Today, we urgently need to comprehend the history from a new perspective, learn from the ancient experiences, protect the ancient water conservancies, villages, agricultural and urban heritages left over on our land, and seek new ways of landscape construction compatible with ancient experiences
