Exploration and Practice of Spatial Resilience Planning Method in Yellow River Floodplain Area: A Case Study of the Xinxiang City Stretch

  • Since Xiaolangdi Reservoir went into operation, the Yellow River floodplain area in Xinxiang City has somehow faced new development opportunities. To balance rural development and flood protection, this research demonstrates the applicability of the idea of resilient city in the floodplain area urban and rural space, analyzes the vulnerability of the floodplain area space based on the main characteristics of the resilient city. Based on literature review and field surveys, this research obtains literature data, satellite imagery and surveying and mapping data, questionnaire data, interview information, and site survey data, and applies scenario prediction and GIS analysis methods. Under the guidance of the resilient city theory, it carries out the vulnerability analysis of the floodplain area, and explores the adaptive orientation-based resilient urban planning method. It hence proposes four main strategies to deal with the development of spaces, which are 1) Building infrastructure that presupposes engineering safety, 2) Rebuilding the redundant structure of the ecological space, 3) Creating a flexible living space, 4) Constructing a diverse production space. On this basis, this research proposes ten specific spatial optimization measures to form a complete planning strategy system to jointly improve the spatial resilience of the target area.
