On Fluidity and Integrity of Chinese Traditional Landscape Architecture

For a long time, some scholars say Chinese traditional gardens have myriads of changes in scenery. Others think they are similar and stereotyped. There’s a huge difference between the two judgments. Actually the design of the Chinese classical gardens is always high integration of local changeability and overall consistency. The fluidity design endows gardens with variety and rhythm, and the overall design gives gardens space of a clear and unique aesthetic scene. The two aspects are complementary. Only with in-depth understanding of the view of traditional garden design methods, could we completely understand the aesthetic features and cultural values of Chinese gardens, and better protect the landscape and cultural heritage, and better inherit and develop the essence of Chinese traditional garden art
